“After running the world record, it was obviously a very fast race for me, and here I want to run a good race but I don’t think I’m going to have an attempt on the world record,” said the Kenyan, the only man so far this summer to set a World Record.

Competition rather than the clock

“(Sudan’s Abubaker) Kaki is in the race and he’s a nice runner, we’ve had some good races this season, so I have to look to him. This meeting is not the place to have a time trial,” added Rudisha, reflecting on one of the key selling points of the Samsung Diamond League.

The 800m Diamond Race is still theoretically at stake as well, although Rudisha has a good lead.

“I hope there will be a good battle just like in Oslo. I expect that we will push each other, but it’s hard to predict how the race will go. It’s only when the gun goes that I will see how he is running.”
